Foax -

Vidal does work quite a nice Pynchon joke into _Duluth_ (which I am
embarrassed to admit is the only Vidal novel I've ever read), where
moving the thumbtack pinned to a map of Duluth which represents
the location of the thumbtack-shaped spaceship that has landed in
Duluth causes the ship to move. This is attributed to "a lesser-known
corollary of the laws of gravity known as Pynchon's corollary" or
some such.

the countryside in a bus driven by a maniac bent
 on suicide."
