I think your definition of MCPiggery (these days generally known as sexism)
is alarmingly narrow.

 My statement
>> What is an MCP but what you describe, where the rationale is that

was not meant as a singular definition but a selection of attitudes which,
taken by a man towards a woman, are sexist in effect. Franz's behaviour
towards Leni is sexist through his inability to accept her right to her own
language and his responsibility as her partner to learn it.

Misogyny -hatred of women- is not pervasive among men, fear of women is.
Bullying isn't as common as the various lesser ways in which we seek, often
unconsciously, to undermine women's confidence and standing, to defeat their
efforts to engage with us equally. All of those lesser methods of dominance
contribute substantively to the general power imbalance which is often
mistaken for a level field.
IMO Structures of power/control which allow the elite to lord it over
the rest of us or, say, men to maintain the ascendancy over women, have
their lines of least resistance along the same paths as their main
reinforcments. Every act of complacent sexism reinforces the whole
structure as surely as an act of mysogynist violence. Sexism isn't like
capitalism in having formal structures and tools which focus its power, the
sexist system consists of the sum total of mens' competitive engagement with
women, their demand that women engage with them on male terms, that they
learn the language of the male world.
Look at the whole damn post feminist shtick. A bunch of women learn
to compete successfully with men in male dominated business and bureaucracy
and hey presto feminism is past its sell by date, an out dated ideology or
so say the idealogues of the capitalist enlightenment.

To return to GR, Franz may well be a
> deeply conscientious and moral man in a unconscionably immoral world.

but peoples' consciences and moralities have never been much guard against
them behaving oppressively, when their ignorance or perceived needs drive
them.
