Hetton-Le-Hole may be a real North East place name, along the lines of
Witton-le-Wear (I shite ye not). N.B. the `Le' part is pronounced as
in `lee-shore'.

Looks remarkably like `The Little Scan' from `The Gluttons', he says,
smoaking an attempt at humour on Pynchon's part.
