Tom Clancy [was Re: Slate...]

Clancy jes' visited up here for the Notre Dame lit festival, and oh lawd,
were people up in arms.  Some uppity folks asked him during the Q&A, "You
write such commercial fiction-- where do you think it'll be in 75 years?"
Real snide-like.  He shrugged and said essentially, "I don't give a damn--
I'll be dead.  As long as I give someone an evening's pleasure reading, I
could care less."

Got to respect that attitude, if not the actual (yecch) works.
