I've always felt this way about GR too.  Pink Floyd caught the feeling
quite well in Comfortably Numb:
	When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
	Out of the corner of my eye.
	I turned to look but it was gone.
	I cannot put my finger on it now.
This snippet doesn't do the song justice, you really have to hear it.

(Reason No. 151 why GR remains my choice as the best book ever.)
