Hey all,

  Your dutiful http://www.suck.com reader has found yet *another* Pynch
reference.

  This time the article is about Wolfe's little essay from a week or two
ago. (Am I correctly remembering that Wolfe said he felt _Gone with the
Wind_ was the greatest American novel, or was that someone else?)
<shudder>
It went on to discuss current treads in publishing...actually fairly
amusing.

  The quote in question is:

    "The stagnant pond of contempory fiction hasn't bred the Dickensian
epic Tom Wolfe hoped for (though the garrulous try, and try, and try..."
  Containing links to pages for _Infinite Jest_, _M&D_, and _Snow Falling
on Cedars_....

 I, for one, am hoping that Suck's prediction of the "Death of the Memoir"
isn't too far off. And the pond isn't *that* stagnant, is it?

cheers,

 will
