I hadn't gotten Jeremy's post when I wrote mine. "Un perm'"
might very well be slang for 'a stay' as P uses it, but it's
derivation from 'permanence' would seem to imply the other extreme
length-of-time-wise to 'permissionaire,' wouldn't it--plus the fact it's
feminine. 
Or maybe Slothrop was supposed to DIE there. Un or une perm' en
permanence?
This is getting curiouser and curiouser.
