NYT and Perez-Reverte and V in Spanish

In yesterday's New York Times piece on "The Fencing Master",  Perez-Reverte  
is quoted as saying that, "I believe that novels should be at the same time 
entertaining and profound." For profundity, he points to Thomas Pynchon. "V 
(is the) best American novel I've read in 20 years."
I'm wondering if any listers have read V in translation and how well it came 
across in Spanish.
