One of the reasons the Japanese are now ignoring history, especially in the 
matter of their aggression in China in the 1930's, is MacArthur's omission of 
a program like the "denazification" put forth by the four powers in Germany 
after the end of World War II in Europe.  The Germans were forced by the 
allies to view the work of their leaders.  They were given mandatory tours of 
places like Bergen-Belsen by the British and the death camps at Mathausen by 
the Soviets.
The Japanese were given nothing like this.   The military system in Japan was 
abolished, but no information programs on Japanese war guilt were instituted 
in the occupied nation.  But maybe the devastation caused by the use of 
nuclear weapons by the USA was considered sufficient
