Brad Fasnacht:
"Wintertime"
Goddamn little nosepicker
swinging his fists at the world
looking for a fair fight
alone in my playground soul
when he knows damn well school's out for good
I cover him with my snowy down-filled comforter
until he doesn't wriggle
like I don't
anymore.
Neil Nosepicker seems to put together a few discourses we've been talking
about: conditioning, jazz, and children/innocence. Put the three together
and we're back to Slothrop, no? Slothrop and the bogeyman. As Weisenburger
notes, Slothrop would be 15 at the time of Nosepecker's publication.
Before we go headlong beyond the behavioralist zero, how about the formal
change after this epigram? The initially unmediated record of the dialog
between Pudding and Pointsman strikes me as another meta-textual moment of
TRP winking at the reader. A false autonomy of the voices.
