Dunno about you but I feel paranoia too; a paranoia deliberately placed in 
the mind of the reader.  
References to Jamf & his work in such an obviously populist publication 
as NN's Book of Insults  suggest that it was literally 'common knowledge' 
even in the 30's; so how come you and I have never heard of it?  How has 
this knowledge been kept from us?
Pynchon is so good at this kind of comic-yet-faintly-disturbing stuff.
