NP new Todorov book

Tzvetan Todorov's name has come up in past threads -- I've mentioned 
that I had the pleasure of taking some classes with him when he was a 
visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley 
Department of French -- so I thought some of you might be interested 
to know that the first chapter of his just-published book, _Memoire 
du mal, Tentation du bien_, is online at 
http://www.liberation.com/chapitre/todorov.html.  There's also a 
Liberation newspaper review of the book linked from that page which 
quotes this observation, which seems to me to provide an apt epigram 
for Pynchon's work:  «Le totalitarisme peut nous apparaître, à juste 
titre, comme l'empire du mal; il ne s'ensuit nullement que la 
démocratie incarne, partout et toujours, le royaume du bien.»
