I'm about to shelve a new book we've gotten in called _Hollywood's
Frontier Captives--Cultural Anxiety and the Captivity Plot in American
Film_ by Barbara Mortimer  (NY and London: Garland Publishing, Inc.,
2000.), the first chapter of which, about the narrative tradition as
precursor to the film tradition, is nicely concise and relevant to M&D.

I think I mentioned this to Rich Romeo to pass along to the list, but, as
I'm casting about for things to say, well, what the heck, anything worth
peating is worth repeating.
