Reading Mark Osteen's American Magic and Dread:  Don DeLillo's Dialogue With 
Culture.  Highly recommended.  One of the key parallels in DeLillo's work 
vis a vis Pynchon is that critique of systems, but, in some odd way, a 
strong attraction to how those systems are necessary in our lives, for good 
or ill.
