The more I think about it the more I like Dave Monroe's idea of the
"volunteers" in Vietnam before the draft.  Benny's Alligator Patrol were not
hunters in the classic sense, they were actually exterminators.  Benny's
empathy for his prey is not like the primitive hunter's propitiation for taking
the life of another soul.  These guys are more like mercenaries.  The only
reason they're in it is for the money.  This makes Zietsuss's pride in them
even more ironic.
