Thanks, David, I kind of like that theory myself, DESPITE the fact that it's
mine. Again, the parallels, no matter how prescient to outright clairvoyant
they are, with the U.S.'s "Operation Igloo White" on that Ho Chi Minh trail
are uncanny (see Paul N. Edwards, The Closed World: Computers and the
Politics of Discourse in Cold War America, from which I posted the relvant
excerpt some time back). And there's that "volunteer" thing, which, in the
military, if nowhere else, need not mean "unpaid," and where else (except
maybe in a posse, a militia, or an ALLIGATOR PATROL) would you have armed
"volunteers"? well, okay, Tennessee, but ... but those armbands, "in green
lettering." The sheer complication of the whole operation. And thos
"cocos," = "gooks"? again, th elision of alligator with crocodile, very
much of the nature of a slur. Hm ... note that "some had turned
cannibal"--North Vitnam vs. South Vietnam? And so forth. By the way, and
no doubt against both my better judgment and my introverted character, I
might just be in that Big Easy of yrs ca. Mardi Gras/Carnival/Fasching this
year, will let you know ...
