I was just considering this particular issue in preparation for the
next section, which I'm also hosting.  Both groups are expatriots of
sorts, with no real turf of their own and no real quarrel with those
against whom they fight.  The Playboys were spread out all over the
city and the Venezuelans "kept to themselves....," as you point out. 
The groups rally around a spiritual leader and will respond to a major
impetus that doesn't directly relate to any of them.  Both Fina and the
Gaucho come to a crisis of conscience, the results of which are both
tragic.  I plan to explore this further when I post my notes, etc. on
February 5.  That doesn't mean we shouldn't begin to discuss these
issues now, though.
