It is too bad you feel this way Courtney... you yourself are insulting
others... you have a delete key like the rest of us. Now I don't want to
sound like I am defending anyone, and no one needs my defense, but your
remarks are simply unfair. To say that there has not been a post worth
reading in about 45 days... c'mon now... Only two reading V.... again that
is not true, and without knowing your other personas, how are we to believe
that you are one of the two readers of _V._ anyway? The last few chapters
have gone poorly, this is true... the hosts have been busy or off line,
whatever. But Swing, jbor, and others have been posting on _V._ and some
interesting stuff too. It seems like about a month ago I had a round of
discussions on a V. topic with jbor, no one else joined in, that was very
rewarding for me. To insult him and say that he does not contribute to the
V. discussion is simply not true. Dave M. has even posted for us today that
he is working on his hosting for June 11. We can look forward to that I am
sure... and I am fairly new to _V._, started reading it, my first Pynchon
novel, back in December and joined this list a month later, and am now on my
fourth reading of it and working on VV(19) which I host.... so please don't
be so fast to accuse the entire list of not actively reading the book... I
am sure I could mention others... Otto, JB Frame, cfa.... that are
contributing too.

So Courtney, what about V. would you like to discuss? Swing has asked for
discussion of Chap 11... which has a few of us reeling... he has really
thought his end of it out... I think you can also go back to June 3 when
jbor tried to get Chapter 13 up and moving with a discussion of the identity
of V. which is how the latest round of fighting started... instead of
responding to his argument or statement in a helpful way, jbor was
insulted... I think we could go back to that post and see it as jbor trying
to get a chapter 13 discussion started... maybe you would like to discuss
Chapter 13... not many are.... I haven't yet, but don't be unfair to those
who have.
And I should probably say something nice about Doug. I don't want to be
seen as taking one side or the other. It is just that Doug doesn't post a
lot on the subject of V. This is not a problem for me as the novel
discussions are voluntary and maybe he has read it several times, I know he
has been on the list for several years, and so he may have contributed to V.
in the past... for another reading... I know that I have read archive posts
of Doug's that have been useful. I think I even copied over from an old
Doug archive something relating Melville and others to _GR_ recently... and
jbor has been on the subject as well.... it is all very interesting and
useful... jbor's discussion of Melville is timely in relation to V. and I
think we can use what Doug has posted also in this way... as an archive
search will show that Doug has contributed on the matter of how Melville has
influenced TP... so choose what you want to read, and if you are not
keeping score, use your delete key like the rest of us.
And Doug, I bet you have posted a lot more on the current _V._ reading than
I gave you credit for above... It is just that I don't recall lately. Those
of us that are newer to the list see you as one of the veterans and fairly
or unfairly, we expect more _V._ posts from the vets...
I am looking at V. pages 383-385, the Rachel and Profane - MG bit there
myself and will post later today... (Why was Profane Scared? top of 384.)
