Cf, Dennis Potter's 1978 _Pennies From Heaven_, the best teleplay I've ever
seen (broadcast on PBS, but as far as I know not available on US tape or
DVD) and one of Bob Hoskins' best performances.
Potter also did the superb original version of _The Singing Detective_ and
other quirky "musicals."
