Considering the "counterculture" was eventually absorbed, neutered, 
disinfected and co-opted in toto by the government/establishment after 
their meager "successes" - Nixon's teamsters beating the tar out of hippies 
and Lee Atwater playing guitar in Chicago blues bar comes to mind - perhaps 
it is you who overrates the failures of the Powers that Be.

I don't think anyone can seriously argue over whether or not our government 
is engaging/has engaged in propaganda. They pretty much admit it.
