In a world where so many writers act as if they are controlled by marketing
professionals, this is refreshing.

I liked the idea that surfaced at the NYPL gathering last week --
davemarc's, I think -- that it might be interesting to do a group reading
and discussion of Pynchon's book support quoes (blurbs).

P.S.  Some of you have asked, and I hate to disappoint, but we managed to
make it through the NYPL get-together without a single fist fight.  Very
congenial.  I expect several house guests in the coming year.

What continues to strike me is Pynchon's continued dealings with the media
on his own terms--for that he should be praised, irregardless of what he
says.
