There are no rules here, and surely some other literature can be seen as 
very significantly related to Pynchon's, so PYNCHON-list or not, we should 
consider it.

some things to consider:

I vote yes to this.

>2. Do we want a 20th Century author, or earlier?

I've already voted on this:  I think we should consider a "predecessor" of 
Pynchon's.

Shorter is better, especially considering how quickly many of those who've 
volunteered here in the past have faded away, leaving only a handful to 
actively drag a big book on for months.

Personally I'd rather read the _Confidence Man_ than SL, only because most 
would agree it's a more important book in the canon of American lit (and we 
all know TRP would second that opinion).  But I'd go along w/ SL too...
