SLSL Intro: poorly written?

"Tyro," I disagree. I happen to think _Finnegans Wake_ and _Absolam,
Absolam!_ are two of the most beautifully written works I've ever read, and
not too many readers would say that "effectively constructed paragraphs" and
"clarity, conciseness, and vividness" come to mind with either of those
works.
I also disagree (in part) with Doug's point about the subjectiveness of good
writing. "Effectiveness" in writing depends in part on the author's purpose,
whether that purpose is to convey humor, horror, etc. And if the purpose of
the SL Intro is to (among other things) recount the social and political
climate during which the stories therein were written, than the writing
isn't "poor" at all.
