Well there's something sort of silly-victorian about this pasttime, and also in
the sport-flying, as in a "those daring young men in their flying machines"
thing.  It reminds me of Charles' "powerful Grambler" too, a silly symbol of
potency.

But don't forget that Charles' father died in a flying accident while sports
flying, which may be related to the death of Shade's bird-father...
