1984 Foreword: allusion

I have absolutely no idea of what you mean here. As I
recall, I went to the usual no small trouble to ferret
out whatever I could bearing on whatever caught my eye

(I still regret not having the time to find a decent
paper on American military dialects), whilst you guys
got caught up in bickering over a paper in Pynchon
Notes which, if nothing else, did kindly identify the
ever likelier (now that Pynchon's written an intro to
the putative source) origin of the title, "slow
learner." Then I simply didn't have the time to much
keep up with whatever followed. This, coincidentally,
alongside running dialogue (such as it is) about
ongoing events in Afghanistan et al. ...

And y'all continue to mistakenly assume that Doug and
I are acting in concert, or even in synergy. Sorry if
i'm one of the very few, and sometimes the only one,
to protest when the abuse gets acutely annoying,
painful, even, but if Doug gives anyone any shit, he
takes far more of it, in both return and as an
outright donation. I ahve no problem being in
agreement with any of you, it'd be a relief, even, but
i don't agree or disagree with anything simply to do
it with anyone in particular. I can't help but suspect
the case is otherwise with others here ...
