VLVL 2(9.5) typo?

Okay, pardon me for going hostus absconditus as my
life finally crumbles under its own weight, but ...

... but at least I can address this.  The syntax is
kinda goofy, is all (but perhaps also in [Carmine's]
character?).  Think instead, "Carmine himself turned
out to be at the phone number in Carmine's note." 
"And," on the other hand, would create the implication
that, well, that "the phone number in Carmine's note
turned out to be Carmine himself," so ... so that make
sense?  Let me know ...
