He's nowhere as cool as John Kerry, or Jesus Christ...

(I think the disease Pynchon bemoans in society is demonstrated, of all places, on a Pynchon list, hence his pessimism even about literature. Then again, as someone else said here, his recent output has been garbage, M&D less so than Vineland.)
