more than a few times since Pynchon's interview with
Playboy Japan was published --  that the interview 
was published in Japanese.  The versions of the
interview that are under discussion here are
translations of the interview from Japanese article
back into English. >>

Whether or not it was translated and retranslated, the
words are attributed to Pynchon.  He has, apparently,
made no move to correct them or call attention to
their inaccuracy; he hasn't claimed them a
misrepresentation of what he actually meant to say. 
Until such appears, the idiotic comparison of Osama
bin Laden to a rodeo clown and the other
less-than-sophisticated analyses tendered must fairly
be assumed to be Pynchon's own by those who insist the
interview is genuine.
