Mind game? I like that. Regardless of whether conscious or unconscious, 
obfuscatory or sanity preserving,  the mere fact that what's going on in 
Slothrop's head is a kind of game helps connect Pynchon's KK with  
Parkhill's poker-playing hero.

Is figuring out all the possible ways the same six consecutive words can 
be construed to various meanings  anything  like  evaluating a series of 
cards for their pot-winning potential? A little, I would think. A tiny 
little at least.
