with the militarization of the populace, the woman's  traditional role
as helpmate for an individual man is challenged or supplanted by
independent agency, which allows Roger Mexico to have an affair with
Jessica but not to win a lasting love?

Maybe unrest with the settled ideas of monogamy and male dominance was
a root cause of the war(s)?

ahh, indeed - the idea of "aiming" - the infant must learn to aim the
lips at the nipple, and the mother of course aims the nipple at the
lips!

Juxtaposed with the idea of "learners and teachers" in
Zipf-Mandelbrot, working out a Principle of Least Effort - the least
effort for the speaker/writer/teacher is to speak in the most general
terms, the least effort for the listener/reader/learner is to receive
the most detailed information
the least effort for the suckling babe is to have the nipple inserted,
while the least effort for the giving-suckle mother or nurse is to
bare the breast.
While in recreational lovemaking, in seeking the play-suckle for
pleasure, the partner is sometimes even allowed to assist in baring
the breast

Applied to the text, Zipf's Law would indicate that the optimization
has required as much detail as can fit into 700+ pages

For Jessica throwing the dart, perhaps the dartboard represents the
hungry infant's mouth, and the dart represents the nourishment-giving
nipple

Or conceptualizing the darts-player as the suckling babe (though
Jessica's hardly a "Grob Saugling") the dartboard could represent the
breast, with the bullseye as the nipple and the dart as the seeking
mouth

Jessica vis a vis Beaver - perhaps her childrearing instincts tell her
Beaver's a better choice.  Yet during the war his attention has been
redirected and she cannot count on him.

Jessica vis a vis Roger Mexico - recreational sex, getting to know
each other and themselves better, wiling away part of the War  (I
always thought the correct term was "whiling away" but I see "wiling
away" so much that the element of "wile" may be more important than I
thought)

also Scorpia, the Scorpion, a watery sign; Mossmoon - moss, that which
a rolling stone does not gather, that which grows on the north side of
