...starring Steve Coogan of all people!
http://news.independent.co.uk/media/story.jsp?story=597234
For those of you who aren't familiar with his work, Coogan is the Peter Sellers-like creator of such memorable British TV characters as Alan Partridge, Paul (and Pauline) Calf, and Portuguese Eurovision-winning "adult contemporary" balladeer Tony Ferrino. He also starred in a very popular short film series called Coogan's Run, in which he played different characters in each episode. He counts acclaimed playwrite Patrick Marber and Satanic satirist Chris Morris as comedic fellow travellers.
If you haven't seen The Day Today (Morris' surrealistic, sometimes Joycean spoof of the BBC news), Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge (a parody of vacuous British "chat" shows), or the first series of I'm Alan Partridge (all available on British import DVDs only, sadly), then do try to track them down. I'm sure many P-Listers would enjoy all three of these programs, which provides a great jumping-in point for the cutting edge of British comedy... from just under a decade ago.
No matter, as the edge hasn't been quite so sharp, ever since.
Cheers!
YOPJ
PS - Fans of Hammer and Amicus type horror films (I'm sure there are a few of you out there) might want to check out Coogan's underappreciated Dr. Terrible's House of Horrible, another series in which Coogan plays a variety of roles in six different films, each spoofing a particular type of 60's suspense film, all presented by Dr. Terrible, who is frigging hilarious, and who is also played by Coogan.
