Reading a complete collection of Raymond Chandler's short stories. 1300
pages of gats, saps and frills....
Just read Apsley Cherry-Garrard's, The Worst Journey in the World -- his
account of the three-year Antarctic expedition that, in part, launched Scott
on his bid for the South Pole. Imagine pulling a 200 lb sledge for 9 hours
through a maze of crevasses in the winter-dark, suffering frost-bitten
hands, face and feet, and then spending an hour to thaw your way into a
frozen sleeping-bag while, outside the tent, the winds are gale force and
the temperature's in the minus seventies.....repeat for several weeks.....to
get some penguin eggs.....'course, they managed these conditions fairly well
(and got their eggs). But it gets worse....
