somesuch (thjough of course Paternak wasn't quite
allowed to make the trip, Sartre turned it down
outright, and beckett said, in essence, thanks but no
thanks for the dinner, but if you'd like to send along
that check ...), but it HAS been a while since the
only other Middle Eastern laureate, so ...
