Amazing and hard to believe, but there's a story on
the front page of today's paper here about a Marine
unit going back to Iraq for its FOURTH tour of duty:

Marine battalion heads to Iraq for fourth time
Tears flow as loved ones bid goodbye to unit members

"Morris" isn't the only American dupe, of course,
although it's him and millions like him who enabled
Bush's crimes with their apologies and attacks on
critics and protesters, not to mention the millions
who don't speak up even when they realize the war is
wrong, but "Morris" may be the first - I haven't gone
back to check the archives - to inject support for
Bush's war propaganda and defense against criticism of
Bush by fellow P-listers - into the Pynchon-l
discussion, pretty amazing when you realize that he
claims to have read and to have achieved some insight
into Gravity's "A screaming comes across the sky"
Rainbow, and that his first response, apparently, to
news of US bombs and missles falling on poor
Afghanistan was to cheer.

Jbor has done the best job of prefiguring in Pynchon-l
the "fascist appeaser" rhetoric that Rumsfeld and Bush
have lately taken to applying to critics of their war
crimes. Puts him in appropriate company indeed -
jbor's even imitated their habit of planting
information in the press to support their otherwise
discredited positions, when he (as reported) revised
the Wikipedia entry on Pynchon to reflect the false
information he has been peddling here about Playboy
Japan for the past several years.
