I sure can, and by any measure I'm much more a book kinda guy than a
movie-TV kinda guy. That's why I find James Wood's strictures on the pop
culture in what he denounces as "hysterical realism" so odd. Like it or not,
that shared imagery and visual rhythm *is* the common coin of today, every
bit as much as morality plays or the Bible and Book of Common Prayer or the
canonical Norton/Oxford anthology authors ever were.
