It is not that easy for me to understand the spoken German, especially on
the radio, so if there are some German colleagues who might take the trouble
to offer a brief summary of this conversation I, and, I hope, many other
P-listers who are interested in the international repercussions of AtD, will
be very grateful.
I am not sure about my comprehension, but it seems that Stingl says that the
German manuscript of AtD will be approximately 2060 pages long.
'It is always a big event when a new Thomas Pynchon book appears in the
market. He has worked for ten years at 'Against the Day'. Now the book
clocking in at 1085 pages in English is in stores.
It will appear in German only in the Spring of 2008. The work on translation
is shared by Nikolaus Stingl and Dirk van Gunsteren. What were Stingl's
thoughts, when he had the manuscript on his table?'
Markt kommt. Zehn Jahre hat er an «Against the Day» gearbeitet. Nun liegt
Was
