Anyone have a view on the relationship between Lawrence Norfolk & Mr. Pynchon and, say, a tribute band to Pink Floyd?
?
When I read The Pope's Rhinoceros, I was mainly amazed that anyone could get?published AND good reviews for being essentially an already-published other writer.
?
Yesterday I read Lemprier's Dictionary & thought, well, this - right down to all the ideosyncratic techniques, syntax, slapstick etc - is how Mr. Pynchon would do the personhood of joint-stock chartered companies & the economic collapse of France, if he went there - how great someone else is doing it. It's like having two Pynchons.
?
Then I wondered whether Lawrence Norfolk is perhaps a side project of Thomas Pynchon's? Like the solo album when the band is having a break.... What does this mean to the concept of plagiarism? Am I years too late on this one? Does it only tell us something about the ignorance of the English publishers?
