His magnum opus "The Sorrow of Belgium", 1990 ("Het verdriet van
België", 1983, "Der Kummer von Flandern, 1986, "Der Kummer von
Belgien", 2008 - new translation") is a masterpiece.

"The Sorrow of Belgium" was the name given to the little Hugo by his
grandma. He honoured her by given his best novel this title.
