RIP Hugo Claus

He was maybe the most important poet in the Dutch language after WW2, among many, many other talents he had.
   
  Our [former] Prime Minister on his last day in office 2 days ago, a fine lover of literature & good friend of Claus' , wrote a moving in memoriam after Claus' self-chosen death through euthanasia.

His magnum opus "The Sorrow of Belgium", 1990 ("Het verdriet van
België", 1983, "Der Kummer von Flandern, 1986, "Der Kummer von
Belgien", 2008 - new translation") is a masterpiece.

"The Sorrow of Belgium" was the name given to the little Hugo by his
grandma. He honoured her by given his best novel this title.
