Thanks. That's what I was wondering about in the first place.

Still, I can find "running" in my dictionaries as a "mass noun" (not
as a gerund), but no entries for "screaming" (so it is a gerund
proper).

This (poetic grab, length, no end) is exactly what I hope I was able
to reproduce, even if the rationalization afterwards was slightly
wrong :)
