Henry,
You cannot be asking this seriously, can you? The man Pynchon has read and read and felt it and remembered what he wanted to use and read some more as if that, too, was life. As much as his life is life,imho.
We, the wiki, are full of his "mixing (others') words", to quote Barthes.
P.S. The best Shakespeare scholars, who aren't Supreme Court justices, believe that Shakespeare was Shakespeare. He knew lots of people. He, too, read and borrowed and most, reshaped, see Spaight, for example.
