The album takes it's title from a Thomas Pynchon novel.  "It's the
most bizarre book," Benatar laughs.  "I can't tell whether (Pynchon's)
being brilliant or he's just bullshitting.  It's all about man's
inevitable race to destroy himself. I thought with all the angst going
on on the record that this would be a good title."
