"probably hired by the Federal Government"----as I posted in the wrong place: like the confusion in ATD over what some anarchists did or what they were framed for......or Fallopian projecting his defensive paranoia?....

"Women," "Who can tell what goes on with them?"...Fallopian, that man who's name connects him to women, expresses that typical cliche about women as whimsical, unknowable in their motivation. 

Yet, could apply (in a non-stereotypical way) to Oedipa's brave but unknowable quest? 

Or, to the uncertainty surrounding anyone who uses the WASTE symbol?
