We know that TRP had great respect for Donald Barthelme's short, sharp, innovative satires. One can see why, where influence or synchronicity might even be in play, but
I always put them poles apart in one respect due to P's encyclopedic satires and Don B.s Chekhov-sized ones.
This rereading of GR has, however, given me this thought, which I apologize in advance for if it has been said or is a truism. (I'll also
apologize now if most consider it wrong, but so it goes)
GR is a series of episodes usually of savage satire (at least), like Don B.s work, BUT also so unbelieveably organized like Ulysses or In Search of Lost Time....the weather (and about everything else) matches the time indicated in the text (a few slips; a few more anachronisms for effect but as pure 'realistic' background the mundane is exact (as most of you already knew, I'm sure))
Like Joyce being Don B., one might blurb.....
