First Edition GR for Sale

I had seen on ebay some years ago...oh around 2007 a Hard Copy First Edition of 
Gravity's Rainbow and I believe on a separate listing from the same person a 
Hard Copy First Edition of either V. or CoL49 and both were signed by Thomas 
Pynchon.  In the description, it said that he had signed these for a fundraiser 
for his son's church.  Does anybody know if there was any merit in this and if I 
should've taken out a loan or a second mortgage on my life for those?  I believe 
they were starting off at a very high price, something like around the price of 
a Lexus and I don't think anybody put any bids on them.  I've always been 
curious to this.  I felt like it was genuine.
