Several of us have already answered that question. We disagree with
you about what is politically possible.

I am one of the unemployed Americans directly affected by this. Lucky
me, I won't go hungry, but failure to extend benefits will still be an outright
financial catastrophe for me. Nonetheless, I'd rather accept that
than live with the likely consequences of
this deal. Not because of altruism or moral outrage, though I
certainly feel the latter, but for pragmatic, practical reasons. If
he caves this early and this easily to the Republican's lunatic
notions of how to manage this mess we call the economy, what will
things like two years from now?
