what it solves, I think, is that Luther and Calvin were recoiling from
the idea that any manmade institution such as the church, could offer
(sell) grace

what it creates is a can of worms where "don't matter what you say,
don't matter what you do, you're gonna wind up in the middle of that
rock'n'roll stew"

and a class system readymade for socialist rebellion against...
