GR translation: with edges fine and combed as rain

Thanks. I like what readers have come up with, but the word "as"
simply looks out of place to me. The old "like or as" grammar
question may have gotten in and funked this up, or it may be a typo,
or I may be, like, thick, thick like, or as a brick, or as blind,
like, in my mind's eye as to prevent my seeing it there as others see
it in theirs. Where? When "Combing the white hair of the waves blown
back" as the rain.
