I got to know Mr. Leary a bit before he died (got some stories re: Bob Dylan, the CIA, etc. too, if you're interested...); in his bookshelf he had Ulysses, GR and the works of Shakespeare all next to each other in a sort of place of honor. We talked about these books, and at the time I knew him (1995 - me, him, some Sharpies and several hundred sheets of undipped Alice in Wonderland acid...) his all-time favorite was Ulysses. HIs pops read Shakespeare to him when he was a boy, so that was up there too. And yes, he sure dug Pynchon.
