Great book. Bourdieu applies his approach to the study of the academic
field and thus illuminates a great deal. Though "Distinction" is his
most well-known book, this one deserves praise as well.
Bourdieu's contribution to the human sciences is hard to evaluate
since he has only in the last decade or so been 'discovered' by much
of academia (primarily in the US). We should also thank him for
resuscitating interest in Ernst Cassirer whose works had not recieved
the same attention as Heidegger's.
